Master of Disaster-Dad Comes Over for Home Improvement Projects

Moving to a new place means certain changes need to happen, locks needs to switched out, pictures hung, furniture arranged, and more of the like.

On Saturday my dad stopped by with my stepmom and started investigating dead bolts, what made him do this, I have no clue but he decided one did not fit just right and that would never do.  Thus started a project that spanned two days.  I only have a small supply of tools right now, I have never needed them before more than to hang a picture or assemble some furniture, so once my dad realized that I did not have a chisel, pliers, or allen wrenches this project would be a two day-er.  He put the door back together and declared he would return the next day to make right this major security snafu.  I of course did not realize this was such a problem, and I don’t really think it was considering the people that lived here before me seemed to be up on the lock and safety game.  And their game was strong.

Sunday rolls around, promptly after papa bear got out of church he called and declared that he would be over shortly and would be bringing his arsenal.  Which ended up being two screwdrivers and a chisel because he got distracted talking to my sister on the phone and did not put his power drill on the charger.  Door one was fixed with no problem.  Door two however, the screws were much too short for his liking and a trip to Lowes was in order.  Go to Lowes, find screws, purchase, and return to the house.  The story should end there, but it doesn’t in the course of trying to put the lock back together papa bear decides that these screws are not the correct size either, but he will make it work.  Then the trouble starts all over because the screw snaps, and by God, I don’t own a vice grip! In his eyes what kind of homeowner am I?!?

Due to lack of proper tools and now a door that will not close, let alone lock I am now marooned at home while he goes to get the full fleet.  Forty five minutes later, he arrives pulls his dodge caravan sport around back and pops the trunk, he had brought the mother-load.  Power drills, a variety of drill bits, new screws, you name it, he had it.  The next thing I hear is: “I think I am going to have to take the whole door frame down.” well that’s where I drew the line and and asked him to put it back together.

So after a two trips to my house, a trip to Lowes, a trip back home and the idea the whole door frame might need to come off and being shut down on that.  The master of disaster of sunday afternoon, took his leave and vowed to be back another day to make everything right.  What would I do without my dad. 🙂

The Times They Are a Changin’

SO….It has been about 18 months since I posted, but I am going to try to get back into the blog game.  Here a few updates in my life, in 2014 I have made some major changes and here is a high level overview of what has made this one of the most exciting year in a while:

  • I stepped out of my comfort zone and made new friends, some have really changed my life others have not so much but they have all been players in this year.
  • I bought a HOUSE! It is crazy, if you would have asked me this time last year if I would be sitting in my new kitchen writing this post, I would have told you are nuts.
  • I have had success at work with increase responsibility and pay (the second is always nice)
  • I watched one of my oldest and dearest friends tie the knot, it was crazy to think someone I spent so much time with s a child is now a married man.  It was perhaps stranger than seeing my sister get married in 2013.
  • I have gone on all sorts of adventures: festivals, hometown tourist destinations, seeing my world with fresh eyes.
  • I have eaten a lot of great food- see the above bullet point.
  • I have learned to say goodbye, goodbye to neighborhoods, people, expectations- I credit lots of this to hard work in therapy, which is something I am so proud of myself for doing.

2014 was a hell of a year and I can’t wait to see what the last few weeks and the new year have in store.  I know this isn’t a big read for people, it shouldn’t be these are my own personal thoughts and musings, but I am going to work on updating more frequently.

Cheers!

Currently Obesessed with…

So moment of truth here.  I dated this guy last year that loved 30 Rock and Tracy Jordan quotes.  I would laugh and then throw out one of the three of four quotes I had stashed away in my memory but usually would try to transition to quoting something along the lines of “Stepbrothers” or “Anchorman”, of which I had a much greater quote arsenal.   I truthfully did not watch the show because it came on when I was watching the quality TV that is Grey’s Anatomy.

While that guy exited my life later on in the year, one this came into my life and that was Netflix.  So after watching every episode of Law and Order: SVU, I have moved onto 30 Rock.  I feel like I am Liz Lemon.

Happy Weekend!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

This weekend’s adventure included a trip to see the Reds play. Had great seats and it was a blast.

Don’t worry. I also met the man of my dreams. He drives the ferry between the stadium and northern Kentucky.

I didn’t get his digits this time, but it for sure gives me a reason to go back.

Meet my fur baby

His name is Fritz. He is awesome. We have a borderline unhealthy relationship together.

Fritz as a mere kitten this summer

Fritz also is my boss when I work from home. He is a micromanager to say the least.

But at the end of the day, he is the
Best kitten a girl could ask for.

Big things!

Going in for my first day at the new job this afternoon! Hopefully this will be me afterwards!

Why I love Pandora Radio

My old job blocked Pandora radio from use on our work computers about six months ago.  That means for the past six months I have been missing out on some great jams while working.  No worries, since I work from home part of the time now, Pandora is back with a vengeance.

Today on the listening agenda:

80s Hairbands and other rockers!

I hope everyone enjoys their Wednesday!

Father’s day recap: my two dads

Some photographs of all the father’s day fun yesterday:
First off brunch with papa bear, the original d-a-d.

Then a little south end traditional fare at Mike linnigs with the stepdad.

Overall, despite the rain, a great day. Thanks to both my dads for all they do.

This is a fun and frugal project. I have way more t-shirts than I need or know what to do with. Hello Summer running tops!

Hola from Mexico!

A couple days before I flew down here, I was doing a little blog browsing when I ran across a really cool tutorial for making a cute gym tank top out of an old t-shirt, which is totally perfect for me because I exercise a lot and designer workout gear is anything but cheep.  Anyway, I found the tutorial on a really cool site called Blogilates that’s full of free pilates videos, tips for healthy eating, cute exercise attire, and general inspiration for living a healthy, active lifestyle…

Catch my breath

So one job is done and now on to two new part time gigs.  I have to s say this is a very exciting time! Even my sister, when I was talking to her on the phone said I sounded so much happier and upbeat than I have in ages.  I just hope that this new schedule also allows a little bit of breathing room too.
