Master of Disaster-Dad Comes Over for Home Improvement Projects

Moving to a new place means certain changes need to happen, locks needs to switched out, pictures hung, furniture arranged, and more of the like.

On Saturday my dad stopped by with my stepmom and started investigating dead bolts, what made him do this, I have no clue but he decided one did not fit just right and that would never do.  Thus started a project that spanned two days.  I only have a small supply of tools right now, I have never needed them before more than to hang a picture or assemble some furniture, so once my dad realized that I did not have a chisel, pliers, or allen wrenches this project would be a two day-er.  He put the door back together and declared he would return the next day to make right this major security snafu.  I of course did not realize this was such a problem, and I don’t really think it was considering the people that lived here before me seemed to be up on the lock and safety game.  And their game was strong.

Sunday rolls around, promptly after papa bear got out of church he called and declared that he would be over shortly and would be bringing his arsenal.  Which ended up being two screwdrivers and a chisel because he got distracted talking to my sister on the phone and did not put his power drill on the charger.  Door one was fixed with no problem.  Door two however, the screws were much too short for his liking and a trip to Lowes was in order.  Go to Lowes, find screws, purchase, and return to the house.  The story should end there, but it doesn’t in the course of trying to put the lock back together papa bear decides that these screws are not the correct size either, but he will make it work.  Then the trouble starts all over because the screw snaps, and by God, I don’t own a vice grip! In his eyes what kind of homeowner am I?!?

Due to lack of proper tools and now a door that will not close, let alone lock I am now marooned at home while he goes to get the full fleet.  Forty five minutes later, he arrives pulls his dodge caravan sport around back and pops the trunk, he had brought the mother-load.  Power drills, a variety of drill bits, new screws, you name it, he had it.  The next thing I hear is: “I think I am going to have to take the whole door frame down.” well that’s where I drew the line and and asked him to put it back together.

So after a two trips to my house, a trip to Lowes, a trip back home and the idea the whole door frame might need to come off and being shut down on that.  The master of disaster of sunday afternoon, took his leave and vowed to be back another day to make everything right.  What would I do without my dad. 🙂

The Times They Are a Changin’

SO….It has been about 18 months since I posted, but I am going to try to get back into the blog game.  Here a few updates in my life, in 2014 I have made some major changes and here is a high level overview of what has made this one of the most exciting year in a while:

  • I stepped out of my comfort zone and made new friends, some have really changed my life others have not so much but they have all been players in this year.
  • I bought a HOUSE! It is crazy, if you would have asked me this time last year if I would be sitting in my new kitchen writing this post, I would have told you are nuts.
  • I have had success at work with increase responsibility and pay (the second is always nice)
  • I watched one of my oldest and dearest friends tie the knot, it was crazy to think someone I spent so much time with s a child is now a married man.  It was perhaps stranger than seeing my sister get married in 2013.
  • I have gone on all sorts of adventures: festivals, hometown tourist destinations, seeing my world with fresh eyes.
  • I have eaten a lot of great food- see the above bullet point.
  • I have learned to say goodbye, goodbye to neighborhoods, people, expectations- I credit lots of this to hard work in therapy, which is something I am so proud of myself for doing.

2014 was a hell of a year and I can’t wait to see what the last few weeks and the new year have in store.  I know this isn’t a big read for people, it shouldn’t be these are my own personal thoughts and musings, but I am going to work on updating more frequently.

Cheers!

Big things!

Going in for my first day at the new job this afternoon! Hopefully this will be me afterwards!

Catch my breath

So one job is done and now on to two new part time gigs.  I have to s say this is a very exciting time! Even my sister, when I was talking to her on the phone said I sounded so much happier and upbeat than I have in ages.  I just hope that this new schedule also allows a little bit of breathing room too.

On to the next great adventure

Tomorrow is my last day at my old job. I have a new opportunity on the horizon that I am really excited about. Today my awesome coworkers threw me a going away party. Nothing says good luck like a giant Justin Bieber card. Just sayin’

A morning in downtown Louisville

I just have to say, I love downtown Louisville! It is becoming more and more alive everyday, which makes it so exciting to be a young professional in this town. Saw “the clock” this morning when I was heading to a meeting.
