Master of Disaster-Dad Comes Over for Home Improvement Projects

Moving to a new place means certain changes need to happen, locks needs to switched out, pictures hung, furniture arranged, and more of the like.

On Saturday my dad stopped by with my stepmom and started investigating dead bolts, what made him do this, I have no clue but he decided one did not fit just right and that would never do.  Thus started a project that spanned two days.  I only have a small supply of tools right now, I have never needed them before more than to hang a picture or assemble some furniture, so once my dad realized that I did not have a chisel, pliers, or allen wrenches this project would be a two day-er.  He put the door back together and declared he would return the next day to make right this major security snafu.  I of course did not realize this was such a problem, and I don’t really think it was considering the people that lived here before me seemed to be up on the lock and safety game.  And their game was strong.

Sunday rolls around, promptly after papa bear got out of church he called and declared that he would be over shortly and would be bringing his arsenal.  Which ended up being two screwdrivers and a chisel because he got distracted talking to my sister on the phone and did not put his power drill on the charger.  Door one was fixed with no problem.  Door two however, the screws were much too short for his liking and a trip to Lowes was in order.  Go to Lowes, find screws, purchase, and return to the house.  The story should end there, but it doesn’t in the course of trying to put the lock back together papa bear decides that these screws are not the correct size either, but he will make it work.  Then the trouble starts all over because the screw snaps, and by God, I don’t own a vice grip! In his eyes what kind of homeowner am I?!?

Due to lack of proper tools and now a door that will not close, let alone lock I am now marooned at home while he goes to get the full fleet.  Forty five minutes later, he arrives pulls his dodge caravan sport around back and pops the trunk, he had brought the mother-load.  Power drills, a variety of drill bits, new screws, you name it, he had it.  The next thing I hear is: “I think I am going to have to take the whole door frame down.” well that’s where I drew the line and and asked him to put it back together.

So after a two trips to my house, a trip to Lowes, a trip back home and the idea the whole door frame might need to come off and being shut down on that.  The master of disaster of sunday afternoon, took his leave and vowed to be back another day to make everything right.  What would I do without my dad. 🙂

The Tuesday Ten

I just saw this on another blog and thought I might give it a try, if I can do ne post a week this year then it is a win 🙂

Ten Things that I am loving this Tuesday:

10. Tuesday night game night is back!

Nothing beats getting together with a bunch of your friends and playing yard games for a couple of hours.  I hope that it isn’t too cold.

9. The heat wave (sort of..)

It is warm here in the Ohio valley today and I am loving the 48-ish degree weather and the sunshine

8. Having someplace to be.

Today I hade to be up and rolling and out of the house for work and it was great, previously had been going stir crazy.

7. The kindness of my little brother.

He did me a huge solid today by letting me borrow his laptop since mine doesn’t have the microsoft word software.

6. New jobs to apply for.

Had several referrals to a job with an agency  I would love to work for, I have written my cover letter, but now taking a few to come back and look at it with fresh eyes.

5. Perspective

I seem to be getting the hang of that…finally!

4. Being reunited with an old friend

Met up with an old college roommate yesterday and it was like we had never been apart, hopefully we stay in touch!

3. Supportive Family

I love the my parents, especially are always there to help me and to step in when I need to a hand.  Today’s example, picking me up from the mechanics and then letting me borrow a car for the day.

2. Fun conversations with my twin sister

We didn’t talk much this weekend, so it was great to catch up with her while she was on her lunch and make fun of certain people’s handwriting and their enjoyment of selling things online.

1. Keeping my New Year’s Resolution to stay positive.

It just makes the day that much better!

When all you gotta do is done…
